Was taking the bus back to DC a bad idea?

Suburban transit in the US can already be pretty depressing, but on a Saturday? As we travel from Manassas, Virginia back home to Washington, DC, we're about to find out just how many hoops we have to jump through on cover a distance that really is only about 30 miles. But Omniride, we recognize you're trying, and we're grateful. Trains Are Awesome! Buy Trains Are Awesome Merch: my-store-f0aafe...

Before WMATA's construction, the site of what's now Franconia-Springfield station was once the site of the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad's Franconia station. It was built in 1870 and demolished in 1952. Originally, WMATA plans called for separate stations for Franconia and Springfield, but before 1979, due to the expense and complications of running separate branches, plans had changed to combine Franconia and Springfield stations into one, and Franconia station was renamed to Franconia-Springfield. The VRE platform opened in 1995, the second infill station on the VRE system, while the Metro station opened in June 1997. Springfield was founded in 1847 around the Orange and Alexandria Railroad's Daingerfield Station, today the VRE's Backlick Road station. It was named for "Springfield Farm", owned by Henry Daingerfield, an Alexandria businessman who sat on the railroad's board of directors. The Franconia community derives its name from the "Frankhonia Farm", which sat on a portion of a tract of 191 acres purchased from Joseph Broders of Oak Grove Farm in 1859 by William Fowle, a merchant from Alexandria. Franconia Road was once the main route wagons took bringing tobacco to the port at Alexandria. Franconia was the site of a skirmish during the American Civil War in January 1862. Colonel Wade Hampton III, having led a group of cavalrymen across the Occoquan River past Pohick Church, encountered a group of Union cavalry in the area and gave chase. Being warned by a Texas scout that he was soon to enter an ambush, Hampton stopped short and formed a squadron on top of Potter's Hill. The trap having failed, both sides began firing at each other, several soldiers were wounded, including one of Hampton's soldiers shot in the face. The Confederates then retreated across the Occoquan

However, I drive to a commuter lot to take an express bus to Ballston (route 622). Route 60, Tyson's Metro Express, is a closer route for me to take, but I would have to transfer from bus to rail; therefore the commute would take longer. I asked my supervisor and coworkers what causes something like that they didn’t seem to know why. The biggest thing to note is that Omniride doesn’t actually operate its service, rather they contract out all operations to Keolis. I couldn’t tell you what it’s like now, but the contractor was continually plagued by management issues. I assumed it got better since some higher ups were replaced at the end of when I worked there, so I’m sorry to see this happened to you guys. It’s still nice to see the agency on video, though! I regularly used to take Omniride to get around in Manassas, the Eastern local services (Manassas) suffers from lack of ridership on most routes and departures from the courthouse every 90 minutes. Now the Western services in an around Woodbridge have much more ridership and departures in each direction. 96 is the only bus connection between the two areas but suffers from lack of timed connections with the local bus services. Overall it has potential to be a great bus service if they fixed certain issues. Also you got lucky with free fares on the bus since they were supposed to have brought back fares in June but they often tend to postpone bringing back fares (buses have been free since the pandemic)

I think this connection would have been great had there been a better connection. It seems silly to make it that long in both directions.

From what I heard, it actually cost more to administer a fare collection system for local service than the fares they actually collected. Crazy!

Can’t believe Thom was at the transit center in the middle of nowhere for more than 30 minutes for a 40 minute transfer. I thought you were better than this. Also, this whole video feels like a Miles in Transit cheapest way video.

I'm certain they do passengerless training, but at a certain point they do have to start taking passengers.

But do you need to make several loops around the transit center when you’re already 20 minutes late?
